Morrish Homes has officially welcomed its very first resident to Mountbatten Park in Romsey.

At 73, Frances Rose has moved into her four-bedroom detached home, purchased for £575,000, and is looking forward to a fresh start near her family.

Having cared for her husband for many years and being widowed in 2024, Frances made the important decision to downsize and relocate from Buckinghamshire. Although she explored other properties nearer her previous home, Frances was already familiar with Romsey thanks to her sister-in-law and extended family living locally – and she knew it was where she wanted to be.

“I liked the location of Mountbatten Park from the beginning – it’s semi-rural with fields, cows and sheep nearby, but still close to Romsey town and everything I need,” Frances explained. “I’d looked at other homes in Buckinghamshire, but I knew I wanted to be near family here in Romsey.”

Frances, who previously worked as a nurse, estate agent and practice manager, is no stranger to assessing homes. She considered older properties and bungalows in the wider area, “but I didn’t want the upheaval of building work for six months,” she said.  She also visited several homes built by other developers at Mountbatten Park, but was quickly drawn to Morrish Homes.

“I thought Morrish Homes were much better designed,” she said. “The houses aren’t on top of each other, and the orientation makes such a difference. For example, I feel more secure with a garage to the side of my home. It means I don’t have to walk around the back to park at night, which is reassuring when you’re on your own. And the garden is a real selling point – everyone who comes here is amazed at the size. I’m having it landscaped and can’t wait to see it finished and choose all my plants.”

A standout for Frances has been the level of craftsmanship of Morrish Homes. She was especially delighted to see the finishing touches added to her house just before she moved in. “They have dressed the house with lead across the top of the windows and the porchway, and it looks so nice – so cottagey – that I’ve really fallen in love with it. I even have a little leaf detail made out of lead above my porch. It just elevates it. Everyone who visits says, ‘What a lovely cottage look you’ve got to a modern house.’ That level of detail makes all the difference.”

Unlike many developers offering discounts and incentives, Frances appreciated Morrish Homes’ straightforward approach. “I paid the asking price and thought it was fair. There were no incentives or gimmicks, but I did get the carpets and flooring included, as the house was already built. It was straightforward and that meant a lot.”

Customer service has been another highlight of Frances’ experience: “Ebony in the office was very thorough, always keeping me updated during the buying process. And since I’ve moved in, the customer care has been great. Martin, the site manager, has been wonderful. He checks in on me regularly, and any little snags have been sorted and dealt with quickly and politely. He’s a real gentleman.”

Her new four-bedroom home features a spacious living room, an open-plan kitchen and dining area with French doors leading to the garden, a utility room and a cloakroom. Upstairs, the master bedroom has its own en-suite, two double bedrooms share a family bathroom, and Frances is having the fourth bedroom transformed into a dressing room.

Frances is already settling into the community and has begun exploring Romsey’s many amenities.
“I’ve joined a gym, and I’d like to volunteer. I’ve always been interested in history and talks, so I’m excited to get more involved in the community. It’s been a huge change, but it just felt right. I feel safe here, I have family nearby, and I’m a short drive to Romsey town centre, which has most shops I need, including some lovely independent cafés, pubs, restaurants, a Waitrose, and I enjoy the regular markets. I’ve got a home that already feels like mine.”

Part of a wider consortium of 300 homes in partnership with the Ashfield Partnership in North Baddesley, Morrish Homes’ collection of 100 houses at Mountbatten Park are all unique in style. Attractive building facades range from classic red-brick houses and traditional flint and brick cottages to impressive Georgian townhouses and detached homes, all to suit a wide range of buyers.
