The shortlist has been announced for the 2016 'Sunday Times British Home Awards' and we are delighted that Tregunnel Hill at Newquay in Cornwall is included in the 'Development of the Year category', for a scheme of up to 100 houses and /or apartments completed in the last 12 months.
The development was delivered by a consortium of regional builders, C G Fry & Son and Morrish Builders working in partnership with the Duchy of Cornwall, The Prince's Foundation for Building Community and Hugh Petter of ADAM Architecture. Tregunnel Hill is an urban infill scheme on a 10-acre site with 174 residential units and 833 sqm of commercial space.
The aspiration for Tregunnel Hill was to create an exemplary, dense, mixed use, sustainable development within this North Cornish coastal town that will act as a catalyst to diversify and regenerate the area. The consortium believes the development enhances quality of life, strengthens bonds of community and place, and gives people a sense of pride in where they live. Building design is governed by the Newquay Pattern Book and Building Code developed by the Duchy and Hugh Petter of ADAM Architecture. This approach ensures the development mirrors Newquay's established architectural vernacular, incorporating key themes of the town and its unique location, where the use of local materials and craftsmanship is vital to the aesthetic and the local economy.
All award winning and commended schemes will be announced on Friday 14th October and will be listed on www.sundaytimes.co.uk/bha and on www.britishhomesawards.co.uk
